Inbal Droval was an active and diverse multidisciplinary creator and artist. Inbal studied fine arts at Thelma Yellin, and then continued her undergraduate studies in the Department of Fine Arts at Bezalel, and her master's studies in the Department of Art, Space and Nature at the College of Arts in Edinburgh, Scotland, where she also developed a special fondness for the world of whiskey.

Inbal has exhibited and participated in dozens of group exhibitions in Israel and abroad over the years, and has published dozens of songs and texts in Hebrew and English, initially as part of the "Bama Hadasha" community and then on the web.

One of the artists who influenced her the most was Sophie Calle, after whom she added the nickname "Sophie" to herself as a kind of middle name on social media, and even used to sign in various public places "Shophie Was Here".

Alongside her artistic activity, she also explored other fields and was socially active. Among other things, she studied and later promoted programming and the advancement of women in the high-tech world (as part of the SheCodes project, where she also conducted courses) and later studied medical registration. On the social side, she was active in the "Yalla" forum, which included Israeli and Palestinian members from Israel and the world who tried to create a new Middle East.

Inbal touched the hearts of many people she met during her lifetime. She passed away unexpectedly on July 24, 2025, at only 40 years of age.

The memorial plaques on the street benches

During her long stay in Edinburgh, Scotland, for her master's degree in art, Inbal was exposed to a touching local custom: street benches with memorial plaques on them with the name of a person who loved to sit on them during his lifetime and the year of his birth and death.

Inspired by the custom, Inbal created such a plaque with her name and year of birth, leaving the year of death open without an inscription.

After her untimely death, and due to the fact that she passed away while sitting on a street bench near her home in Jaffa, Inbal's family decided to commemorate her by replicating her artwork on street benches in Tel Aviv. The original plaque she created was incorporated into the tombstone.
